Why the valve clogs
The exhaust contains soot and oil mist. They deposit in the EGR valve and the line. The valve can then stick and no longer open or close cleanly.
Clean or replace?
If the valve is only sooted, cleaning can often help. If it is mechanically or electrically defective, it must be replaced. The inspection on the vehicle shows which.
