What you can do yourself
Many manufacturers recommend a longer drive at steady, higher engine speed when the light is on, so that the regeneration can complete. The tank should not be almost empty. What applies to your vehicle is in the owner's manual.
When you should not keep driving
If a red warning light or the check engine light comes on as well, the vehicle goes into limp mode or you smell heavy smoke, you should stop and call a workshop. Driving on can cause further damage.
If the light keeps coming back
